Salary Range:

$63,500 - $142,300 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidates experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Information Systems Architect to interact with multiple technical areas across IT with a solid understanding of networking, firewalls, WAN/LAN technologies, and communication protocols.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Implement collaborative expertise to design, implement, operate, maintain, and solve all enterprise network problems relating to network services and traffic controls
  • Work with SNL Corporate networks, remote SNL and business partner networks, and emerging purpose-built enclaves
  • Partner with Cyber Security and Core Networking teams to architect and engineer custom design network flow and behavior solutions
  • Identify and solve workflow, traffic, and service impacts
  • Offer recommendations on alternatives and assesses technical limitations within operations realities
  • Partner with clients and staff to conduct high-level investigations for strategy studies, requirements specifications, and feasibility studies, and communicates requirements to staff
  • Travel as required

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:
  • Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, Information and Communication Technology, or a related field, or eight (8) years' experience
  • Networking experience in one of the following areas:
  • Data center networking
  • Secure Access Technologies such as WAFs and Firewalls
  • Routing/ Switching
  • Understanding of network equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Arista, Tellabs, Palo Alto, Extreme, and Juniper.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate, design integrations, and operate leading technology equipment
  • Active DOE Q (or equivalent) clearance is required to start

Qualifications We Desire:
  • Knowledge of:
  • F5 ITM and WAF solutions
  • Packet Analyzers (NetScout/Wireshark, Etc.)
  • 7 layers of ISO/OSI Layering Model
  • Extensive experience in firewall and other traffic control methodologies and technologies
  • Experience with Ansibl
  • Demonstrated ability to team effectively in a collaborative research environment, to identify and resolve network-centric issues.
  • Experience mentoring staff

About Our Team:

Department 9774, Data Center Operations, is responsible for managing the daily activities of critical IT services. This includes working in collaboration with the SNL Facilities team in several 24x7 data center environments to ensure all critical systems are operational supporting the mission of the IT infrastructure for Sandia National Laboratories. The storage team architects and delivers all Enterprise storage services for redundancy, automatic failover, and failback. Our backup team ensures backup and recovery for physical, virtual, and appliance-based systems. The firewall team delivers secure network traffic control inside and outside the laboratory, ensuring state-of-the-art application delivery. Lastly, the Core Networking and Software Defined Networking teams ensure application and service availability, connectivity, resiliency, to both internal and external customers. All these services operate on both the unclassified and classified levels.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
